Simple Skills Can Go a Long Way

Learning mind body skills can improve your health. These skills can prevent diseases or help you manage chronic conditions much better. A simple example is what we use in cognitive therapy: How to manage negative thoughts with three Cs.

1- Catch the negative thought: practice being aware of negative thoughts and as soon as they enter your space of awareness catch them and recognize them as negative thoughts. This will stop your negative thoughts from escalating and ruminating.


2- Challenge the negative thoughts. Ask yourself how useful is this thought. The main value of thinking is to solve problems. Thoughts that do not help you or others are mostly negative and of no value. Also you can challenge the validity of these negative thoughts. Most of the times when you challenge the negative thoughts you realize that they are not valid or true.

3- Change the thought to a helpful and useful thought.


Practice these 3 Cs: Catch, Challenge and Change the negative thoughts.
